Про лабораторію
The Laboratory of Physical Studies of Minerals, Rocks, and Lithology is an independent methodological and educational unit of the Faculty of Geology and a teaching-support division of the Department of Mineralogy, Petrography, and Geochemistry. The laboratory was established on January 1, 2020, through the merger of the Laboratory of Physical Methods for Studying Minerals and Rocks and the Lithological Laboratory. Its purpose is to provide high-quality training for master’s and bachelor’s students enrolled in relevant courses.
The main tasks of the laboratory are:
- Ensuring proper conditions for conducting practical classes and laboratory work at a high scientific, methodological, and didactic level in the following courses: Fundamentals of Petrography, Petrography of Crystalline Rocks, and Lithology
- Providing the necessary conditions for geology students to complete their coursework, bachelor’s, and master’s theses using physical research methods for minerals and rocks, including luminescent, optical, electromagnetic, and lithological analyses
- Assisting faculty members, researchers, postgraduate students, and students of the Faculty of Geology in their scientific activities
- Developing methodologies and recommendations for conducting specific research methods and sample preparation, as well as ensuring conditions for their implementation
- Primary processing of rocks, ores, and minerals
- Preparation of samples for optical-microscopic, electron-microscopic, and X-ray structural studies
- Maintaining the proper technical condition of instruments, equipment, and materials assigned to the laboratory for conducting scientific research, laboratory work, and practical exercises related to the physical methods of studying minerals and rocks
More information about the laboratory can be found in a short video.
